ADS-B broadcasts give pilots in-flight access to real-time weather data (FIS-B).
Standard features include Bluetooth and USB ports to interface to various portable devices (PDAs, Tablets, etc) running EFB software capable of displaying traffic and weather. Internal to the unit is a 5Hz GPS for precise and rapid update positioning.
Previously weather information was only available to general aviation pilots via XM Aviation Satellite Weather service which requires the purchase of hardware and ongoing subscription fees of $35 to $100 a month. Since ADS-B broadcasts are completely free, pilots don't have to worry about ongoing subscription costs.

The ADS600-B™ is a remotely mounted Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) designed to be fully compliant with the TSO-C154c standard. The ADS600-B™ displays ADS-B information including TIS-B traffic and FIS-B weather on Chartflier displays. The ADS600-B has a built-in transmitter.
Non-TSO'd but can be legally installed in certified aircraft as a portable install. A free upgrade to a TSO version is included with purchase. (restrictions apply)
Standard features include an internal 5Hz GPS, RS232 channel for an external altitude encoder, both RS232 and RS422 interfaces for a variety display devices, and a secure slide-lock attachment for the DB37 system connector.
Unit includes an ARINC 429 interface that will allow ADS-B information, including TIS-B traffic, to be displayed on devices such as the Garmin GNS 530/430/480. The ARINC 429 option also allows an external GPS navigator supporting the ARINC 743A standard to replace the internal GPS source.
Unit also includes a Bluetooth Adapter for connection to the Chartflier EFB.

The BU-353’s slim profile housing is completely water resistant and incorporates an active patch antenna for the highest level of GPS accuracy. With a 60” cable, placement of the GPS receiver anywhere within the aircraft will usually get sufficient GPS signal reception.
Since power and data are transferred through the same USB cable from the BU-353, there’s no need for batteries or any other external power source.
